On September 24, Ukrainian drones launched a targeted attack on the center of the city of Novorossiysk in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. This was announced by the region's governor, Veniamin Kondratyev.
At the same time, naval drones (the Russian military describes them as unmanned boats) also struck the port of Novorossiysk. This port is considered one of the largest sea corridors in Russia. Here is located not only the oil terminal of the International Caspian Pipeline Consortium (IPC), but also the naval base of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.
According to the regional emergency headquarters, seven residential buildings were damaged as a result of the attack. Among them are the "Novorossiysk" hotel and an apartment building on Shevchenko Street. The roof of this house burned down.
It is reported that two people died as a result of the incident, and seven others were injured to varying degrees. Among the victims is a minor. Three of them were hospitalized in serious condition.
In addition, more than 20 cars were damaged to varying degrees, three of them were completely burned. A state of emergency was declared in the city. The governor asked residents to observe safety regulations and, if possible, not leave their homes.
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium announced the temporary suspension of its office due to the attack. All employees were evacuated due to the damage to the building. According to KTK, two workers were injured, as well as serious injuries among people not related to the company's employees.
At the same time, the Russian Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) reported that port infrastructure and ships were not significantly damaged after the attack.
After the incident, security measures were strengthened in the Krasnodar region. In particular, in the city of Gelenjik, the entry of any vessels into the sea was prohibited. In the cities of Tuapse and Sochi, coastal residents are being temporarily evacuated.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet officially commented on the incident. The Ukrainian military has also made no statement on this matter.
