New rules and measures for holding weddings and ceremonies in Uzbekistan

In accordance with Resolution No. 589 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 16, 2024, weddings, ceremonies, and family events in the country will be controlled in a new order within the framework of the "Rational Consumption" (Save Food) program. The main goal of this program is to prevent excessive waste and expenses, as well as to provide the population with sufficient and high-quality food.

The years 2026-2030 have been declared the "Urgent Period of Food Security." During this period, the country pays special attention to preventing excessive waste and ensuring food security. The purpose of the program is to ensure that each family event is conducted in a legal and socially beneficial manner.

According to the decree, weddings and ceremonies will be held in accordance with the established procedure. According to a special regulation approved in 2019, the number of guests at family events and weddings is limited. Specifically:

  • Family events can be held with up to 200 people;

  • Up to 250 guests can participate in pilaf ceremonies;

  • Double weddings and hashars can be attended by up to 250-300 people.

Also, customs that do not correspond to national traditions and require excessive time and expenses are strictly prohibited. Such customs include events such as "Kuyov navkari," "ota ko'rdi," "sep yoydi," "pul tarqatish," and "mato ulashish." These measures are subject to restrictions due to excessive costs and waste.

Meetings, weddings, and ceremonies will now be held in accordance with national values and the needs of society, thereby contributing significantly to promoting a healthy lifestyle and ensuring food security in the country. This decision will not only reduce the level of dependence of each member of society on resources, but will also contribute to improving the environmental situation.

Thus, the new system in the country is an important step aimed at improving the quality of weddings and ceremonies, as well as ensuring the financial and public benefit of each event, which should be supported by all segments of society.
