US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, expressed a strong opinion about Russian President Vladimir Putin and emphasized the need for him to immediately cease hostilities.
"People's lives are being wasted. This process must stop, Vladimir Putin must stop immediately... Russia is spending enormous funds on bombs, missiles, weapons, and human lives, but as a result, they have almost no territory," the White House leader noted in his speech.
At the same time, the American leader also commented on the Turkish leader. Trump emphasized that while Russia is "conducting a continuous offensive against Ukraine," Erdoğan intends to restrict oil purchases from Moscow. According to him, Turkey has the potential to significantly influence the events in Ukraine.
"Erdogan is respected by everyone, and I have great respect for him. If he wants, he can seriously influence the course of the war in Ukraine, but at the same time he prefers to remain neutral," Trump said.
The US President also emphasized that the Turkish leader is respected not only in his own country but also in Ukraine and Russia. Trump added that Erdoğan has built a powerful army and is effectively using US weapons. At the same time, he "knows Putin as well as Trump."
