Seat is working on new electric vehicles and parting ways with Cupra

Seat plans to introduce its own new electric vehicles as production costs decrease. The company's management stated that the brand will not just be limited to rebadging Cupra models, but will have a completely separate model lineup in the future. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports .

Recently, after a long hiatus, Seat unveiled updated versions of the Ibiza supermini and the Arona crossover. This is the first major investment in the brand since the fourth-generation Leon model was released in 2020. New mild-hybrid engines are also expected to be introduced for these models next year.

Currently, with the Ateca and Tarraco SUV models discontinued, the Seat lineup is limited to just three gasoline models. Although the company is directing primary resources toward the rapidly growing Cupra brand, CEO Markus Haupt emphasized that the Seat brand remains an important legacy for the company and that investment in it will continue.

According to Haupt, more serious discussions about the brand's future will begin by 2029-2030 when CO2 emission requirements become stricter. Currently, the high cost of electric vehicle platforms remains a major barrier for affordable brands like Seat, but the situation may change as costs decrease.

The Seat and Cupra brands have completely different customer segments and market positioning. Seat focuses primarily on internal combustion engine and affordable vehicles, which is crucial for markets outside Europe where the electrification process is slower.
