Germany bids farewell to Lada: Importer closes after 50 years of operation

Lada Deutschland GmbH, the official importer of Lada vehicles in Germany, has ceased operations and initiated bankruptcy proceedings. After more than half a century in the German market, the company was forced to close its business due to the inability to find a new investor. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
The company's crisis began several years ago. In 2019, the supply of Lada models to Europe was officially halted due to stricter EU environmental regulations. Following this, the importer attempted to remain in the market by relying on low prices and niche demand, importing Niva SUVs (under the names Lada 4×4 and Taiga) through alternative channels.
However, the situation deteriorated sharply after 2022: sanctions and the disruption of logistics chains completely halted the supply of vehicles and spare parts from Russia. This destroyed the company's sustainable business model. Attempts to pivot toward Chinese brands like JAC Motors and Dayun did not yield the expected results.
According to statistics, Lada sales in Germany dropped to a few dozen per year in 2024-2025, whereas in previous periods, this figure exceeded a thousand. Interestingly, it was this same company that facilitated the initial entry of the Kia brand into the German market in the 1990s.
