A scientific book about Uzbek poet Usmon Azim has been published in Turkey. The author of the book, Turkish poet and literary scholar Fatih Sultan Yılmaz, announced it on his Facebook page, TimeTürk reported.
Yılmaz’s scholarly work, titled “A Devotee of Uzbek Literature: Usmon Azim (Era, Personality, Work)”, was published in honor of the poet’s 75th anniversary. The book consists of three chapters, with the first and third written by Yılmaz himself.
The first chapter presents a literary portrait of Usmon Azim, analyzing his creative journey and thematic directions through academic methods. The second chapter includes articles by Uzbek and Turkish literary scholars such as Shoira Ahmedova, Nasiba Norova, Sarvinoz Ne’matova, Madinabonu Rahmatova, and others. These works were translated into Turkish by Yılmaz for Turkish readers.
The third chapter features the author’s interview with Usmon Azim, conducted in Tashkent. It contains previously unpublished reflections and views of the poet on Turkish and world literature.
“Through this conversation, readers will see not only the poet’s work but also his inner world. May it bring benefit to Turkish and Turkic literature,” Yılmaz wrote.
Fatih Sultan Yılmaz also published a separate collection of Usmon Azim’s poems translated into Turkish, titled “Sessızce oturdum dünya içinde”, through Bengü Publishing House. The collection includes poems from the poet’s early to his latest works.
For reference, Fatih Sultan Yılmaz was born in 1995 in Trabzon and conducts research on Turkic world literature. He has authored a book about Abai Qunanbaiuly and translated poems from Uzbek, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, and Azerbaijani poets into Turkish.
Usmon Azim is regarded as one of the prominent figures of modern Uzbek poetry. His works — “Holat”, “Oqibat”, “Kuzgu”, “Jodu”, “So‘ngso‘zlar” — have left a deep mark on literature. The poet was awarded the “Dustlik” (Friendship) Order in 1998 and is the author of around three thousand poems.
