Gandalf and Frodo Return in the New Lord of the Rings Film

“The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” has confirmed the news fans have been waiting for: audiences will once again see Gandalf and Frodo on screen. The announcement came from Ian McKellen himself—the actor who etched Gandalf into the memory of millions.
According to the actor, filming is set to begin in May. Most intriguingly, Andy Serkis will direct the film and will once again play Gollum himself. That means the voice, physicality, and movement—the very same Gollum “vibe”—is expected to return.
The plot, naturally, will be built largely around Gollum. McKellen confirmed that Gandalf and Frodo will also appear at the heart of the story, but for now he has avoided extra details about the rest of the cast. That leaves fans with another “intrigue”: who’s back, who’s new, and which characters might show up unexpectedly?
The film’s premiere is scheduled for December 17, 2027. So there’s time, but in a franchise like this, every update is an event. Especially in a story centered on a character like Gollum, there’s bound to be plenty of mystery, inner conflict, and dark corners.
Another hopeful sign: Elijah Wood, who played Frodo in the original trilogy, has also said he wouldn’t be against returning to the franchise. In 2024, he noted that the new project left a strong impression on him and that there may be an opportunity to return to a world that holds an important place in his life.
In short, not all details have been revealed yet, but the key point is clear: a new story about Gollum is coming—and Gandalf and Frodo are in it. Now fans can only wait for the next updates from the filming process starting in May. For those who’ve missed this world, even the wait has already become part of the “journey.”
