Famous mafia boss on Italy’s most wanted list arrested

Roberto Mazzarella, one of Italy’s most dangerous fugitives, has been captured by the police. The Guardian reported this.
Mazzarella had been evading the police for over a year and led the well-known Mazzarella clan of the organized crime group "Camorra". On the evening of April 3, he was caught at a luxury villa on the Amalfi coast costing 1000 euros per night, with his wife and two children. Police reported that he did not resist arrest.
The 48-year-old Roberto ranks fourth on the Italian Ministry of Interior’s most wanted list. He had been wanted since January 28, 2025. Mazzarella was accused of the murder of Antonio Maione in 2000, and Maione’s brother Ivan admitted killing Mazzarella’s father Salvatore in 1995.
The arrest operation involved the Carabinieri investigative unit, Italian Air Force, and Salerno coastal security, monitoring nearby waters. During the raid, 20,000 euros in cash, three expensive watches, mobile phones, and forged ID documents were seized.
The Mazzarella family controls a large part of smuggling and drug trade in Naples. They also engage in money laundering and forgery in Milan and northern Italy.
The arrest was praised by politicians. European Parliament Vice President Pina Picerno called the event “a major victory for the state and a clear signal against the mafia.”
