According to reports, a Ukrainian diplomat was detained while crossing the Russian border and his personal belongings were searched. During the search, $140,000 in cash, 12 kilograms of gold, and 14 kilograms of various valuables were found and confiscated. The diplomat was planning to illegally take these amounts out of the country.
Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of the Russian President for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, commented on the situation. In his opinion, if the European Union does not pay enough attention to energy diversification, Ukrainian diplomats understand the importance of this process well.
Dmitriev described the seized funds as a “well-balanced portfolio,” noting that they included dollars, euros, gold, and valuables. Even though these assets were accumulated outside the legal sphere, he said, it showed his financial literacy and good understanding of investing.
Interestingly, Dmitriev also added the sensational detail that there was no room for the golden toilet itself, but he noted that it could also be purchased from the portfolio.
“The golden toilet turned out to be too big to fit in it, but it could have been purchased from this portfolio,” the Russian presidential envoy added.
