Russian President Vladimir Putin will head to China for an official visit in the coming days. According to the Kremlin, the visit is scheduled for May 19–20 and is aimed at further strengthening strategic ties between the two nations.
It is reported that this trip also holds symbolic significance. It is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the important Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation signed between Russia and China. This document has served as the cornerstone of bilateral relations for years.
Comprehensive negotiations between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin are planned during the visit. They will discuss developing bilateral ties, deepening political cooperation, and taking their “comprehensive strategic partnership” to a new level. The leaders will also exchange views on pressing global and regional issues.
A joint statement is expected to be adopted at the end of the talks, along with the signing of several important bilateral documents. This could signal the beginning of a new phase in Russia-China relations.
As part of the trip, Putin will also meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The meeting will focus on expanding trade and economic cooperation, investment projects, and prospects for developing mutual economic ties.
It is worth noting that Vladimir Putin's last visit to China took place in late August 2025. At that time, the parties also placed special emphasis on strengthening strategic cooperation.
