French prosecution requests 7-year prison sentence for Sarkozy

The French prosecution has requested a 7-year prison sentence for Nicolas Sarkozy. He is accused of illegally financing his 2007 presidential campaign with funds from Libya.

The prosecution is also demanding a €300,000 fine and a 5-year ban on holding public office for Sarkozy. Investigators allege financial irregularities in the case.

Previously, it was reported that Sarkozy had been released on conditional parole in another election spending case. The court ruled in his favor on May 5.

This decision was attributed to Sarkozy being 71 years old and came into effect on May 7. It is reported that he requested the easing of his sentence conditions himself.
