$250 million will be allocated to preserve Central Asian glaciers
The Green Climate Fund has approved an allocation of $250 million for the Asian Development Bank's "From Glaciers to Farmers" program. This program covers Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and Pakistan.
The initiative is aimed at developing sustainable water supply and agricultural systems. The allocated funds will be provided by the Green Climate Fund in the form of grants.
Additionally, the Asian Development Bank will allocate $3.25 billion from its own funds. The financial resources will be used to modernize irrigation systems, construct reservoirs, and improve water resource management.
The main goal of the financing is to help agriculture adapt to the consequences of rapid glacier melt. The program will be implemented in nine countries of the region, including Uzbekistan, and will focus on the basins of the Naryn, Pyandzh, Kura, and Swat rivers.
The initiative will help improve the lives of 13 million people. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
