World Bank Allocates $250 Million to Uzbekistan

The World Bank to allocate $250 million to Uzbekistan

The World Bank has approved a $250 million loan to Uzbekistan to expand access to education loans under the EduImkon program. The program, planned for 2026-2028, will be funded by the World Bank, with its implementation entrusted to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This initiative aims to address barriers within the financial support system for students. The program includes plans to modernize the education loan system and launch a unified online platform for submitting and reviewing applications.

Additionally, it aims to simplify access to education loans for women and low-income groups. The EduImkon program also envisions aligning the education system with labor market demands and piloting income-based repayable loans for graduates.

The financial assistance provided by the bank is expected to benefit 600,000 university, technical school, and college students by 2028. Out of the total funds, $190 million will be allocated to support education loans and assist underprivileged Uzbeks in choosing their field of study.

The EduImkon program will also attract an additional $30 million in private investments to further expand access to education loans and reduce the budgetary burden.
