Why did most Afghans come to Uzbekistan in 2025?

According to preliminary data from the National Statistics Committee, the number of foreign citizens arriving in Uzbekistan for commercial purposes increased sharply in 2025. During the year, a total of 446.8 thousand foreign citizens visited the country for trade and business purposes.
The figures show an increase of 247.8 thousand people compared to the same period last year. That is, the volume of commercial visits increased by 2.2 times. This process may mean an intensification of regional trade relations and an increase in economic traffic with neighboring countries.
Afghanistan accounts for the largest share of those who arrived in Uzbekistan for commercial purposes in 2025 - 415,577 people. Next are Tajikistan (17,962), Turkmenistan (9,048), Russia (728), Kazakhstan (589), and Turkey (587), while the share of other countries was 2,355. Earlier, it was reported that in January-December 2025, the volume of market services provided in Uzbekistan reached 1,050.3 trillion soums.
