Trump threatens Cuba's oil suppliers with tariffs

US President Donald Trump, citing a "threat to national security" coming from Cuba, declared a state of emergency in the country. According to the White House, based on this decision, a mechanism for applying additional tariffs (duties) to goods from countries that sell or otherwise supply oil to Cuba will be developed.
It was reported that Washington attributes the Cuban leadership's actions to harming US interests, as well as supporting countries and terrorist structures considered hostile to America. Therefore, the Trump administration aims to increase economic pressure on those supporting Havana through the "oil chain."
The state of emergency also gives the president some additional powers that are difficult under normal circumstances. That is, decisions are faster, mechanisms work harder - in short, similar to the "red button" mode.
Experts emphasize that the Cuban economy is very sensitive to shifts in oil supply. According to Lazar Hayfes, a representative of the Latin American Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the sharp reduction in oil supplies from Venezuela and Mexico has dealt a heavy blow to the Cuban economy. Against this backdrop, the new tariff pressure could further complicate the situation with energy shortages and prices.
One thing: this decision is a signal not only to Cuba, but to the entire "supply chain" linked to the oil flow. Now the main question is which countries and which goods will be the first to fall into the "tariff wave."
