Scientists prove the benefits of eating earlier

Researchers at the Complutense University of Madrid have found that meal timing is a crucial factor in weight control. The study involved 1,195 overweight adults who underwent a 16-week weight loss program. Twelve years later, the results were analyzed, revealing that each hour of delayed eating increased body mass index (BMI) by an average of 1 kg/m² and raised weight by approximately 2.2%, reports Peopletalk.

For individuals genetically predisposed to obesity, the effect was even stronger – delayed meals increased BMI by 2.21 kg/m² for every hour. Experts attribute this to a disruption of the body’s biological “internal clock” – the circadian rhythm. Late breakfasts and lunches throw off the body’s natural schedule, which not only promotes weight gain but also raises the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Scientists emphasize that making a habit of eating breakfast and lunch earlier is a simple yet effective way to avoid extra weight and keep the heart healthy.
