The hottest period on record has begun: Scientists issue dire warnings

In recent years, the phrase "heat records" has become a regular news item. But the assessment of scientists cited by The Guardian shows that it is not just a matter of "temperatures have risen" - the situation is much more serious. According to scientist Christopher Wolf, the current rate of warming on Earth is occurring faster than most researchers expected, and global temperatures may be approaching the hottest period in the last 125,000 years.
The publication also warns that if this process continues for a long time, the planet could enter a scenario described as a "greenhouse hell" - a climate state that is self-reinforcing and could get out of control.
3°C is not “the end of the world,” but…
Tim Lenton, a professor at the University of Exeter in the UK, was very blunt on this subject: it is not necessary to completely transition to a “greenhouse Earth” state for humanity to be in serious danger. In his opinion, if global warming reaches around 3°C, the impact on society and the economy will be so severe that the systems we are used to may cease to “work as usual.”
According to scientists’ forecasts, a warming of 3–4°C could seriously disrupt economic and social systems and lead to large-scale instability. This is not just about more hot days — it is about a chain of problems such as food, water, energy, health, infrastructure, and migration pressure.
Why is it “moving” so quickly?
The Guardian’s assessment also mentions the idea of “tipping points”: when systems such as glaciers, ocean currents, forests, and permafrost exceed certain limits, the process can accelerate itself. Then it becomes difficult to turn back.
Summary and outlook
The current picture does not mean “it’s all over tomorrow”. But it is also said that there is no time to think “later”. The bottom line is that warming is accelerating, and the dangers are not limited to one or two areas - they are a chain that spreads throughout our entire way of life.
