According to medical reports, two out of three school-age children — about 66 percent — suffer from various vision problems. This is manifested not only in learning difficulties, but also in headaches, quick fatigue, and inability to concentrate.
Mistakes in choosing glasses can make the problem even worse. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to the following rules:
1. Correct diagnosis – the first step
The vision values measured in optical shops are often inaccurate. The child must be examined by an ophthalmologist. Only a doctor can make the right diagnosis and prescribe lenses with the correct diopters.
2. Choosing “weaker” glasses – a big mistake
Many parents believe that glasses with slightly weaker diopters will “keep the eyes working.” In reality, this approach does not fully correct vision, causing eye strain, fatigue, and headaches.
3. Consider age and lifestyle
When choosing glasses, it is important to take into account the child’s age, classroom activity, and physical activeness. For example, durable, unbreakable frames are recommended for very active children.
4. Don’t forget the adaptation period
It takes a few days for a child to get used to new glasses. If discomfort such as eye pain, dizziness, or blurry vision persists, you should immediately consult a doctor.
Teach children to use phones and tablets with time limits. The habit of looking into the distance for at least 5 minutes every hour greatly improves eye health.
