Sugar allergy is a type of food allergy that can occur in people of any age, which manifests as an adverse reaction of the body to sugar. According to experts, this condition is associated not only with excessive consumption of sweets, but also with the body's inability to absorb certain types of sugar compounds.
Sugar exists in various forms: glucose is necessary for our body as an energy source, fructose is found in fruits, lactose in dairy products, and sucrose in white sugar used daily. Therefore, an allergic reaction can occur not only after sweets, but also after regular fruits, milk, or even ketchup and medicines.
The cause of allergies is the immune system's incorrect response to sugar. In this case, the body perceives sugar as a dangerous substance and triggers a defense reaction. As a result, rashes, itching, headaches, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, or weakness may occur.
According to medical research, this condition is often associated with refined white sugar (i.e., an artificial form of processed sugar). In such cases, experts recommend reducing the amount of sugar and using natural sweets - honey, stevia, or fruits.
