Is this a sign of a desire to drive fast or is it another 10 km/h "error"?

Is this a sign of a desire to drive fast or is it another 10 km/h "error"?
Among drivers, the view that “if the laws and regulations are relaxed, there will be more freedom” is very widespread. However, few realize how this “freedom” has terrible consequences for public safety. So, what should the deputies do now that does not increase the risk to health and life?

Otherwise, when the increase in the error margin in speed measurement to +10 km/h was discussed, speed enthusiasts “whose appetite was aroused during the meal” would not have put forward new demands.

If you don't believe me, take a look at the following post:

Look, when the car's speedometer shows 60 km/h, the actual speed should be around 60-70 km/h.

Shouldn't logic demand the opposite? This remark alone has prompted me to criticize some of my subjective opinions on this matter.

Speedometer and GPS: which one is more reliable?

In fact, the speedometer of any car accurately shows the actual speed. If it is significantly exceeded, it will be 1 km/h lower or higher. This is how it is "set" from the factory and it makes sense.

However, there is a difference in the speed displayed by the GPS radar detector installed in the car or by the GPS applications on the mobile phone. For example, in my car, when the electronic speedometer shows 65 km/h, the GPS always shows 63 km/h.

That is, when the speedometer shows 67-68 km/h, the real speed is 65 km/h on the GPS. The drivers who object to this are well aware of this.

Then one more thing: the car's speedometer measures the speed based on the rotation of the shaft. This takes into account the standard diameter tire installed at the factory. By installing a larger diameter disk and tire, the difference in speedometer and speed can increase to +5...+10 km/h. This is now the fault of the reckless driver. No one asked him to put 18 instead of 15, or 21 instead of 17 disks and cylinders, right?

Minus 10 deduction: speed limit or caution?

The radar speed limit is usually around 2-3 km/h. The -5 km/h deduction is due to this. It is unclear what the reason is for this error rate to increase to -10 km/h.

Despite the fact that one lawyer for potential "auto terrorists" says that "these drivers are not allowed to drive an additional 10 km/h in populated areas," I personally consider this to be a permit to drive faster.

Even if such drivers are -10 km/h off the speed limit, they still get a speed limit of 71 on the radar and complain to the authorities that "they only wrote a fine for +1 km/h." In fact, they were driving +11 km/h faster than the allowed speed limit. Because they accept this as “I have the right to drive up to 70 in a 60 zone.”

Their lawyer also uses this: “Brother, you should drive 60, not 65 in a 60 zone, then you won’t get caught on the radar!” He demands “You have the right to drive up to 65 by law, if they speed up a little or if they get caught on the radar at 66 due to an error in the instruments, just give them 10.” They say tomorrow, they won’t be satisfied with 10 km/h, but they will go 15 km/h for the same reason.

A middle way for deputies

Now deputies have the option of approving a deduction of 10% of the posted speed limit, not -10 km/h for the difference in error.

Then the speed limit is:
- 55 km/h in areas limited to 50 km/h,
- 66 km/h in areas limited to 60 km/h,
- 77 km/h in areas limited to 70 km/h,
- 110 km/h in areas limited to 100 km/h.

This is the only way to avoid burning both kebabs and Sikhs, in my opinion. Moreover, this method is used in some countries. For example, in England.

False claim about victim statistics

One more thing: auto terrorists like to make the important point that "the number of accidents and victims on the roads is not decreasing with the increase in fines, the installation of radars and cameras?"

In fact, the number of accidents and victims is decreasing, albeit slowly.

But when they say "reduction", they probably mean that it does not go to "zero". Unfortunately, with our driving culture, it still does not go to "zero". That's for sure.

So, we need to continue to follow the path of limiting the speed, strictly controlling the speed of cars on the roads, especially in populated areas, without playing into the hands of "flying" drivers.

Below are the indicators by year. (In 2020, the indicators are lower due to pandemic restrictions).

2019:
Number of accidents — 8092
Number of victims — 2094

2020:
Number of accidents — 6982
Number of victims — 1962

2021:
Number of accidents — 10001
Number of victims — 2426

2022:
Number of accidents — 9902
Number of victims — 2356

2023:
Number of accidents — 9839
Number of victims — 2282

2024:
Number of accidents — 9364
Number of victims — 2203

You can draw your own conclusions.
