Two sisters married the same man and died under different circumstances

In the Tashkent region, this tragic event shocked not only the local population but the entire country. In this incident, two sisters married to the same man died under different circumstances. Both cases demonstrated the tragic consequences that family violence and trust can lead to.

The first case occurred during the night of August 16–17, 2024. A 37-year-old man, intoxicated, returned home, woke up his sleeping wife, and engaged in a conflict with her, applying psychological and physical violence. The man hit his wife with his hands and feet in the stomach, after which she was taken to the hospital. The man's parents and their two minor children witnessed the incident.

Despite two weeks of treatment in the hospital, the woman died. The deceased's parents noted that conflicts often occurred in the family, and the man regularly applied violence against his wife. They also tried to hide the fact of the beating, making others claim that the woman's injuries occurred from falling down the stairs.

However, law enforcement authorities took control of the case and conducted a forensic medical examination. According to the medical conclusion, the woman had multiple internal injuries and chronic diseases developed over her life. As a result, on February 21, 2025, the Ohangaron district court recognized this individual guilty under Article 126-1, Part 8, Clause “g” of the Criminal Code (family violence that led to the victim's death) and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment.

The man disagreed with the sentence, and the case was reviewed on July 1, 2025, in the appellate instance of the Tashkent regional court. He requested to annul the decision of the first-instance court and to declare him innocent of his wife’s death. The appellate court examined the case materials, medical examination results, and the deceased’s medical record. The court concluded that the injuries were not directly related to the woman's death, and her death was caused by a heart attack. Accordingly, the man's crime was reclassified under Article 126-1, Part 6 (family violence causing physical harm), and he was sentenced to 6 years and 5 months of imprisonment.

The tragic event had another chapter. The deceased's parents reported that the man had previously married the woman’s older sister, who drowned in the bath shortly after the wedding. Later, the man returned to the family to marry the elder sister, divorced from her first husband. The parents stated that when the elder daughter was hospitalized after being beaten, the man locked the bathroom door and coldly watched the first wife's suffocation. He said: “I killed her, I will kill you too!”

This event raises serious questions about family violence, trust, and human life risks. Why did the man not bear responsibility for the death of his first wife? What led him to kill his second wife? Can 6.5 years in prison change such a cruel person?
