Alik Khadartsev was denied the opportunity to compete under the Uzbek flag

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has settled the issue of changing the sports citizenship of Russian wrestler Alik Khadartsev. According to the court's decision, the wrestler can no longer compete in international competitions under the flag of Uzbekistan.

According to the information, at the beginning of 2025, Khadartsev received an Uzbek passport, and through this, the local Kurash Association submitted an application for his official inclusion in the team. However, the World Wrestling Association (UWW) rejected this request. The basis is the expiration of the special quotas that the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) could provide. As a rule, such a quota applies to only three athletes per year.

Khadartsev appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to settle the situation, but the CAS did not satisfy his complaint. Thus, the Russian wrestler temporarily lost the opportunity to participate in international tournaments for the Uzbekistan national team.

Alik Khadartsev has won prizes in the Russian championships several times during his career. His success in the Uzbekistan championship also generated significant interest among athletes and fans.

It is noteworthy that the participation of Russian athletes under the flag of Uzbekistan has been observed before. For example, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Dagestani Razambek Jamalov competed in the 74 kg weight category and won the gold medal.

The current situation has once again demonstrated how complex and controversial the issue of changing sports citizenship is in the international arena. Fans and experts hope that Khadartsev will have another chance on this issue in the future.
