Uzbekistan's national football team head coach, Fabio Cannavaro, highlighted the resilient character of Uzbek players and their never-give-up attitude. He shared this in an interview with The Guardian, the English media outlet, referring to his experience as the 2006 World Cup champion and former captain of the Italian national team.
“Uzbeks are very tough. They fight until the end. Playing against them is a real challenge,” said Cannavaro.
The Uzbekistan national team has made history by qualifying for the World Cup finals for the first time. During the qualifiers, they lost only one match out of 15. The Italian specialist considers the World Cup as a phase for learning and preparation, while linking their true goals to the Asian Cup, set to take place half a year later.
According to him, the team includes many promising young players. The Football Federation is actively investing in academies, and this is already yielding results in youth and junior-level teams.
Cannavaro emphasized the need to align the level of Uzbekistan's national championship with the demands of World Cup competitors. To this end, additional training camps and a more rigorous monitoring of players’ preparations are planned.
“Unexpected results do not come by themselves. They are achieved only through hard work, dedication, and discipline,” concluded the head coach of the Uzbekistan national team.
Cannavaro also shared his thoughts on life in Uzbekistan. According to him, Tashkent is developing rapidly and resembles a modern international city, while its people are warm and hospitable.
However, he underlined air pollution in major cities as one of the primary challenges facing Uzbekistan.
