In Russia, against the backdrop of the demographic crisis, the discussion of the reasons why women refuse to have children has reached a new level. Representatives of the State Duma and the Public Chamber sharply criticized women choosing a "life without a baby," noting that the main reason for this is not material shortage, but the lack of spiritual values and "greed."
"They won't give birth because they're greedy": Moskvitina's sharp opinion
The head of the "Women for Life" Foundation, Natalia Moskvitina, in her speech at the conference, explained the refusal to have children not by objective difficulties, but by personal characteristics.
- Moral attitude: In her opinion, women should not seek excuses for financial problems or a cramped living space.
- Accusation of greed: Moscow cited as an example the words of one of the priests: "They do not give birth, because they are greedy." He emphasized that a newborn wouldn't eat a single bowl of human soup.
Incitement to abortion is considered a crime
The public activist said that it is necessary to prohibit proposing abortion at the federal level and consider it a crime. Currently, such a ban has entered into force in 30 regions of Russia. In particular, in December 2025, in Mordovia, a man who persuaded a woman to have an abortion was brought to administrative responsibility and fined for the first time.
Vitaliy Milonov: "Infertility is the path to death"
State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov also emphasized that the issue of having children depends only on the values of the mind and heart.
- Emptiness in the heart: According to the deputy, people are born not from having lots of money, but from spiritual wealth. He called childlessness "going to death on the right path."
- Source of happiness: According to Milonov, children are not a source of well-being, but the only source of happiness that continues human life.
Medical risks and social offers
Specialists are concerned that women are giving birth to their first child late (28-30 years old). Doctor of Medical Sciences Roman Shmakov reminded that after 35 years, the chances of getting pregnant decrease, and various medical risks increase.
At the same time, Academician Gennady Onishchenko, not limiting himself to criticism, proposed the following to rectify the situation:
- Expansion of the network of kindergartens and nurseries;
- Introduction of special payments to female students in the amount of the minimum wage.
Today, it seems that the Russian government has chosen not only material incentives, but also increased ideological pressure to close the "demographic hole."
