Ukrainian special services have uncovered a secret agent who has been operating in the interests of the Belarusian State Security Committee (SGB) for many years in the capital, Kyiv. The journalist, detained as a result of a multi-stage operation conducted jointly by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Military Intelligence Directorate, reportedly worked for Minsk since 2015.
"Secret" spy under the guise of a journalist
According to official data, the suspect was sent from Minsk in 2020 to Ukraine to expand the agency's network and gather intelligence. Although her name has not been officially disclosed, DW and other sources confirm that this refers to 35-year-old Inna Kardash.
- Career history: Previously worked as a correspondent for the TV channel "112" owned by Viktor Medvedchuk, and later for the agency "Interfax-Ukraine."
- Arrest: The woman was detained near her place of residence, a voice recorder with confidential information and a smartphone were seized from her as material evidence.
"Interest" in international diplomacy and the Chinese Embassy
The woman, accused of espionage, used her journalistic position to establish close ties with Ukrainian politicians, high-ranking military personnel, and foreign diplomats.
- Trip to Europe: Under the pretext of a medical examination, he traveled to one of the EU countries and received new assignments from his curator.
- Special task: He is tasked with collecting information about Russian and Belarusian volunteers helping Ukraine, as well as establishing informal contacts with the staff of the Chinese embassy and monitoring their activities.
"Operational game" of Ukrainian intelligence
The most interesting thing is that the woman was caught trying to get a job in one of the key units of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence (GRU). Nevertheless, Ukrainian special services did not immediately detain him and began a long-term "operational game."
- Disinformation: Through this game, the Belarusian KGB was regularly provided with false information (disinformation), and every step of the agent was monitored.
- Punishment: Currently, she is charged with espionage, with the woman facing up to 15 years in prison.
This situation once again demonstrates how acute the fight against internal security and foreign intelligence networks has become in Ukraine during the war.
