A new wind power station with a total capacity of 20 megawatts will be built in the Burchmulla area of the Bo‘stonliq district of Tashkent region. This was reported by the press service of the Tashkent region administration.
The project cost is 28 million US dollars, and construction is planned to be financed by grants. On July 1, 2024, the governor of Tashkent region, Zoir Mirzaev, signed a decision to allocate a 10-hectare land plot for this facility.
The new wind power station will be capable of generating approximately 129.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This amount of energy is sufficient to fully supply electricity to a small city or a large village.
Thus, the operation of the station is expected to save 811.1 thousand cubic meters of natural gas or 3150 tons of coal annually. This is not only economically beneficial but also an important step toward environmental sustainability.
According to the Ministry of Energy, in May 2024, solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan generated a record 1.1 billion kWh of electricity. This figure accounts for 17% of the total production: 712 million kWh from solar stations and 392.1 million kWh from wind stations.
In 2024 alone, a total of 4.86 billion kWh of electricity was produced from solar and wind sources in Uzbekistan. These figures show the country’s growing attention to renewable energy sources.
Currently, 11 solar photovoltaic stations and 3 wind power stations with a total capacity of 4067 megawatts are operating in 10 regions of Uzbekistan.
The location of this 20 MW wind station in Burchmulla shows that the area has been strategically chosen. The region is mountainous and windy, making it suitable for wind energy generation. Efficient use of this natural potential contributes to the country’s energy security.
Moreover, the station’s construction will create additional jobs for the local population, develop infrastructure, and improve the standard of living in the area. In general, the project holds not only energy but also social and economic significance.
It is worth noting that renewable energy sources are the foundation of the energy sector of the future. The government of Uzbekistan is consistently carrying out reforms in this field to ensure stable energy supply, environmental protection, and future reduction of carbon emissions.
At the same time, such projects, implemented in cooperation with international organizations and donors, also increase the country’s investment attractiveness. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
