New York Mayor to Visit Uzbekistan

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is set to visit Uzbekistan for a five-day trip, reports *The New York Times*. Despite criticism from the public, the visit is part of the mayor's marathon of international travel.

Adams is expected to arrive in Uzbekistan on Tuesday after departing from Israel, following an invitation from Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. These costly trips, financed through taxpayer funds, have drawn criticism for being seen as neglecting the interests of New York residents.

A representative for Adams, however, emphasized that economic development issues are being discussed during these international visits. "These trips are not cheap because the mayor travels with security and staff.

For instance, Eric Adams traveled to Israel with six advisers, while he brought one aide each to Albania and Uzbekistan," writes *The New York Times*. Eric Adams is scheduled to leave office on January 1, when his successor, newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani, will take over.

Mamdani, a member of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, will make history as the first Muslim to serve in the role.
