Admission to programs where foreign language is the first subject has become easier

A new rule has come into force for applicants choosing programs where foreign language is the first subject for admission to higher education. The government has amended the admission procedure, and now a national or internationally recognized certificate of at least B1 level is required to apply for such programs.
That is, it is not enough to rely on a simple test in the complex of subjects where "foreign language is the 1st subject": it will be difficult to submit documents without a certificate. At the same time, the score for this subject is calculated in advance, depending on the level of the certificate.
How are points awarded based on the certificate?
In accordance with the resolution, the procedure for assessment in the subject "Foreign Language" is defined as follows:
- In the case of a national or international B1 level certificate - 75 percent of the maximum score for a foreign language.
- If there is a B2 or higher certificate - the full maximum score for this subject is assigned.
Most interestingly: previously, at least a B2 level was required to enter these programs. Now the starting threshold has been lowered to B1 - this opens the door to "entry into the game" for many applicants.
What is the benefit to the applicant, what is the conclusion?
In fact, this change gives two different signals:
- You can also apply with B1 - meaning you don't have to give up the dream just because "I don't have B2 yet."
- But B1 is 75%. If you are choosing a direction where competition is fierce, B2+ automatically gives you a strong advantage, as you completely cover the maximum score in a foreign language.
In short: B1 - "ticket" for entry, B2 - "turbo" for rating. Therefore, it is best to combine preparation with a plan for obtaining a certificate.
