Kent's political career also went through a rather complex path. He had previously tried twice to be elected to Congress, but both attempts were unsuccessful. Nevertheless, in July 2024, he was confirmed as the head of the National Anti-Terrorist Center with a small preference.
During the discussion of his candidacy, a number of disputes arose. Some Democrats accused Kent of connections with extremist groups, including members of the Proud Boys organization. He also did not abandon his controversial views on the events of January 6 and the 2020 elections.
Joe Kent is also distinguished by his military experience. He served in the US Armed Forces on 11 foreign missions, including in the Special Forces of Iraq. This experience has shaped him as a specialist with deep knowledge and practical skills in the field of security.
It is worth noting that the National Counter-Terrorism Center is one of the most important security structures in the US, uniting employees of the CIA, the FBI, the Pentagon, and the Department of Homeland Security. This office is headed by Talcy Gabbard, Director of U.S. National Intelligence, and Kent was one of the key advisors there.
Interestingly, the Donald Trump administration does not have a consensus on the issue of policy related to Iran. A clash of views was observed: Trump demonstrated a firm position in public, and in some cases, called for caution in internal discussions. It is also said that there were certain disagreements with Vice President Jay DiVence in this regard.
Joe Kent demonstrated his independent position on this very issue. Instead of engaging in new wars, he emphasized the need to pay more attention to the internal problems of the USA. In this regard, his resignation is considered not only a personal decision, but also an important event demonstrating the diversity of opinions in the US political elite.
