Donald Trump has signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from the UN Human Rights Council and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This was reported on Tuesday, February 4, by the White House press service, as well as by the AFP and dpa agencies.

White House: "Anti-American bias" prevails at the UN
As AFP noted, Trump's order also envisages a review of US participation in the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The agency quotes the new White House Secretary Will Scharf as saying that there is an "anti-American bias" in UN institutions.
"Overall, the order requires a review of US funding to the UN, given the large differences between countries and the level of funding," Scharf added.
"I have always felt that the United Nations has great potential. But now it is not living up to that potential, - Donald Trump said as he signed the document. - It is not working very well and it is not doing its job.
The United States was the largest donor to UNRWA
After Israel accused Hamas of involvement in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, US funding to UNRWA was suspended in January 2024 under Joe Biden. At the same time, more than a dozen developed countries, including Germany, Great Britain, Japan and Australia, stopped funding UNRWA after the US. Canada, Sweden and Italy suspended payments, but later resumed payments.
Previously, the United States was the largest donor to UNRWA, providing $ 300-400 million annually. During Trump's first term in 2017-2021, it stopped funding UNRWA. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
