Following the recent Club World Cup final, U.S. President Donald Trump responded to a question about who he believes is the greatest footballer of all time.
Trump made this statement during an interview with DAZN. According to him, the brightest football star is Brazilian legend Pelé.
"When I was young, Pelé came to New York. At that time, he played for the 'Cosmos'. My friend Steve Ross — one of the heads of Warner Communications — was the one who brought him here. The stadium was packed, and fans greeted him with great enthusiasm," Trump recalled.
He compared Pelé to the legendary baseball player Babe Ruth, saying: "Talking about Pelé is like remembering Babe Ruth. Both are legendary figures in sports history. But if we're talking about footballers, I'd say Pelé was unbelievably great."
For reference, Pelé played for the New York Cosmos from 1975 to 1977 and significantly contributed to the growth of football’s popularity among American fans.
Trump's statement is seen as another recognition of Pelé’s iconic role in world football history. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
