Trump wants to expand the list of countries banned from entering the United States
The administration of former US President and candidate for re-election Donald Trump is planning to further restrict entry into the United States for citizens of certain countries. This is reported by The New York Times.

New bans and the “red list”

According to sources, Washington is planning to introduce a new system called the “red list”. This system may completely ban citizens of certain countries from entering the United States. The list could include the following countries:
- Cuba
- Iran
- Libya
- North Korea
- Somalia
- Sudan
- Syria
- Venezuela
- Yemen
- Afghanistan (proposed option)

Different levels of restrictions

The planned measures involve varying degrees of restrictions on citizens' ability to enter the United States:

1. Red List - Citizens of countries on this list will be completely banned from entering the United States.

2. Pink List - Citizens of these countries will be restricted from entering, but not completely closed. For example, only wealthy businessmen or special visa categories may be allowed.

3. Yellow List - These countries will be given 60 days to correct their shortcomings. If the established requirements are not met, they will be transferred to the "red" or "pink" list.

These shortcomings include:
  • Inaccurate information about those entering the United States;
  • Weak passport and security screening systems;
  • Some countries selling citizenship to people from banned countries.

Impact on visa and green card holders

It is not yet known how these restrictions will affect current visa and green card holders. There is no official information on whether existing visas will be canceled.

Previous restrictions imposed by the Trump administration

Trump first imposed travel restrictions on citizens of certain countries in 2017. The ban initially covered Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. Later, in 2020, Nigeria, Eritrea, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, and Sudan were added to this list.

Biden’s lifting of the bans

After Joe Biden became president in 2021, he lifted all visa bans imposed by the Trump administration. In its place, a system of individual verification of citizens entering the United States was reintroduced.

If Trump is re-elected, he may further tighten the rules for entering the United States. These measures are likely to create serious restrictions for citizens of some countries. So far, no official decision has been made on this issue, but it is known that the proposal is being discussed.
