In the city of Chongqing, an Apollo Go driverless taxi carrying a passenger accidentally fell into a trench at a construction site. Fortunately, the female passenger inside was unharmed — local residents and construction workers helped her get out.
According to reports, barriers and warning signs had been installed at the construction area. However, why the robotic car still ended up in the pit remains unknown. The incident has further fueled discussions in China about the safety of autonomous taxis.
It is worth recalling that recently another case was reported — a driverless taxi belonging to competitor Pony.ai caught fire on the streets of Beijing. The company stated that there were no passengers in the vehicle, and the fire was caused by a system malfunction.
