Activists of the caravans for justice and humanitarianism to Gaza
A caravan of people from the capital of Tunisia to Gaza on June 9 caused widespread discussion throughout the region. The convoy, consisting of buses and cars, brought together activists, human rights defenders, doctors and students, set out to draw attention to the "unjust siege" and to deliver aid to the people of Gaza who are deprived of assistance due to the blockade.

According to the initiators of the caravan, their main goal is to immediately lift the severe Israeli blockade of Gaza and to bring the humanitarian crisis in the region to the attention of the world community. Many activists from North African countries - Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt - joined this movement. They aimed to reach the Rafah border crossing and demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinians.

It should be noted that this caravan was organized after the Israeli military blocked a ship carrying the famous environmental activist Greta Thunberg and a number of European parliamentarians, which set off on a journey through the Mediterranean Sea two days ago, and the participants were detained and deported. With the blockade of the “Freedom Flotilla” moving by sea attracting attention, the activists have now launched another movement by land.

The caravan, which left Algeria, passed through Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, with the main goal being to reach the Rafah border crossing. This crossing has remained almost closed since it was occupied by the Israeli military in May 2024, severely limiting the access of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The participants of the caravan include representatives of various professions, lawyers, doctors, students and prominent members of civil society. They are gathering additional supporters along the way and stopping in towns in southern Tunisia before crossing into Libya. The main slogan of the caravan is to demonstrate that “Our people in Gaza are not alone. Your pain is our pain!”

Experts say that due to the 2.5-month-long Israeli blockade, more than 2 million people in Gaza are living in extremely difficult conditions, facing hunger and a lack of humanitarian aid. Civil society and activists in the country are trying to encourage the international community, including Arab states, to take serious practical action.

This initiative has received great support in Tunisian and Algerian societies, and people and media in the region have been paying special attention to it throughout the caravan’s route.

This movement once again shows the world that solidarity and assistance are still of great importance in the struggle for humanity, peace and justice in Gaza.
