A New Toy Trend in China: Wakuku — the “Budget Labubu”
Beijing — In the Chinese market, the popular Labubu toy has met a serious competitor — a new plush toy called Wakuku, which has become a trending favorite among girls and young people. TikTok users have dubbed this new character the “budget Labubu,” reports Pravilamag.ru.

The Wakuku character was developed by the Chinese company Letsvan in 2022–2023 and entered mass sales in 2024. In a short time, the toy has gained strong popularity, especially among zoomers (the generation born after 2000).

In March, a panda-themed version of Wakuku was launched at the Miniso Land store in Beijing. This product increased the store's revenue by 90%.
In June, during the opening of Miniso Space in Nanjing, another new Wakuku model was sold out within two hours.

Like the famous Labubu from Pop Mart, Wakuku toys are sold in sealed mystery boxes, where the buyer doesn't know which character is inside until it's opened. This element creates intrigue and excitement.

Wakuku figures are also small-sized, designed to be attached to bags, backpacks, or belts — making them not just toys but also fashion accessories.

Labubu toys are often expensive and sold at exclusive prices. Wakuku, on the other hand, is more affordable: one box costs 640 to 1700 rubles (approximately 85,000 to 230,000 Uzbek soums). That’s why TikTok users are calling it a “budget alternative.”
