Jackal caught in Tashkent

Employees of the Tashkent City Improvement Main Department have captured a jackal that caused a stir among the capital's residents. The wild animal was caught in the Mirzo Ulugbek district.

According to the city administration, the animal is healthy and will soon be handed over to the Tashkent Zoo. In recent weeks, photos and videos showing the jackal freely moving through residential areas in the city center, especially in Darhan, have spread on social networks.

According to witnesses, the jackal did not attack people but hunted cats. It is believed that it was hungry.

The Ecology Department reported that it is monitoring the situation. The agency advised citizens not to approach the wild animal and to immediately notify the emergency services if they see it.

Animal protection activists attribute the appearance of the jackal to the mass extermination of stray dogs on the streets. In their opinion, these dogs have protected the city's natural environment from wild animals for years.

"When this barrier disappears, wolves, jackals, and foxes will take its place," the activists say.
