On the night of December 13 to 14, the residents of Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to observe one of the brightest meteor showers of the year — the Geminids. This has been reported in NASA's "What’s Up: December 2025 Skywatching Tips."
According to NASA forecasts, the peak activity is expected between 03:00–04:00 UTC on December 14. This corresponds to 08:00–09:00 Uzbekistan time.
However, as this time coincides with dawn, the peak activity of the shower may not be visible. Nevertheless, astronomers note that the peak activity can still be observed several hours before and after the peak time.
This provides the opportunity to observe the meteor shower from midnight until dawn on December 14. At the peak of activity, up to 120 meteors per hour can be observed, provided the sky is clear and dark.
The Geminids are known for their bright and slow-moving "shooting stars," which are visible even under urban lighting conditions. The Geminids appear annually in December and are formed from debris left by the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.
While most meteor showers are associated with comets, the Geminids originate from an asteroid. This explains their higher density and brightness.
