A man from Uzbekistan has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Russian general
A military court in Moscow sentenced Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Commander of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, and his assistant, Ilya Polikarpov, to life imprisonment.
According to the court decision, Kurbanov will serve the first 10 years of his sentence in prison, and the next term in a special regime colony. It is also reported that he was fined 1 million rubles. According to the investigation, Kurbanov is indicated as the direct perpetrator of the terrorist attack.
Three other individuals were also sentenced
As part of this case, the court also sentenced three other defendants:
- Botukhon Tochiev - 22 years,
- Ramazon Padiyev - 18 years,
- Robert Safaryan - sentenced to 25 years in prison.
It is reported that Kurbanov fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. There are reports that Safaryan partially admitted guilt, while Padiyev and Tochiyev denied the accusations.
How the terrorist attack was committed is being reported
According to the investigation materials, on the morning of December 17, 2024, an explosive device placed inside an electric scooter parked near the general's house in Moscow was detonated. As a result, Igor Kirillov and Ilya Polikarpov died. Kurbanov was detained several hours after the incident.
According to Russian investigative bodies and media versions, it was noted that during interrogation, Kurbanov said that he was recruited by Ukrainian special services, and for the crime, he was promised $100,000 and a "road" to one of the European countries.
At the same time, the investigation claims that Tochiyev and Padiyev rented a room for Kurbanov in a hostel in the Moscow region, where he was supposed to hide after the terrorist attack.

It is natural that this verdict is mentioned as one of the most resonant cases related to the death of a high-ranking military official in Russia. Now the next stages of the case - whether there will be a complaint and appeal process - will be known in the near future.
