BYD sales in the UK rise by 880 percent

China’s major electric car manufacturer BYD announced that its sales in the UK rose by 880 percent in September compared to last year. The company sold more than 11,000 cars last month, most of which were its hybrid SUV model called Seal U.

The UK has become BYD’s largest market outside China. The country has not imposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, making the market attractive for producers like BYD.

BYD now holds 3.6 percent of the UK car market. The company plans to launch new hybrid and electric models in the coming months. It has also opened its 100th retail outlet.

Last month, electric car sales in the UK reached a record level. However, petrol and diesel vehicles still make up more than half of new car sales in the country.
