A Vietnamese artist has entered the Guinness World Records. According to UPI, Lu Cong Guen did not cut his nails for 34 years and became the owner of the world’s longest nails.
The total length of the nails on both hands reached 5.9 meters (19 feet 6 inches) — which is even longer than the average giraffe.
According to Guen, in his youth he dreamed of becoming a teacher and began growing his nails “for a more majestic appearance.” His father was a shaman, so his religious beliefs also influenced this decision. However, later at his father’s request, he gave up his dream of becoming a teacher but continued to grow his nails and became an artist.
“Since then, I have not cut them, and my nails kept getting longer. If I had to cut them, I would feel very uncomfortable, both physically and spiritually,” said the artist.
According to him, maintaining such nails requires great responsibility.
“If it rains, I must keep them dry, because if they get wet, they soften and may break. In crowded places, if someone hits them, they easily break as well. Therefore, both while working and moving, I have to be very careful,” Guen added.
