US President Donald Trump said that peace talks on Gaza are continuing in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh. He stated: “The chance of reaching a deal is very high.” The talks are focused on the release of hostages and the exchange of prisoners.
According to Trump’s plan, hundreds of Palestinians could be released in exchange for freeing 48 hostages. If the sides reach an agreement, humanitarian aid will be sent to Gaza promptly.
Hamas has said it agrees with some parts of the proposal but has not yet given a clear answer regarding disarmament and giving up its political role. Delegates from Qatar and Egypt are also participating in the talks.
The UN Secretary-General and other international leaders support this initiative. Meanwhile, fighting continues in Gaza, and reports say many civilians have been affected.
