Ja'far Irismetov, who previously scored goals for the Uzbekistan national team, shared his thoughts on Fabio Cannavaro's appointment as head coach of the national team.
According to Irismetov, the Italian specialist is currently a "mysterious" celebrity: "Looking at his coaching career, we don't see great achievements - it's not just about titles, but also about the content of the game. Cannavaro is remembered by many primarily as a great footballer. "I don't know on what criteria the Federation decided," he said.
The former striker also recalled the national team's stylistic orientation: "We have long relied on attacking play. Frankly, I don't believe Cannavaro will give us big news," he added.
At the same time, Irismetov emphasized a cautious optimism: "When Srechko Katanec was appointed at the time, there were also doubts, but in the end, we managed to get things done. Therefore, we shouldn't rush to conclusions."
In his opinion, it is necessary to go to the upcoming World Cup with clear plans and conditions: "The task that will be set for us at the World Cup has not yet been announced. But leaving the group is a lucky scenario. There's no point in going to the tournament without aiming for the playoffs."
At the end of his speech, Irismetov wished the national team good luck: "The main thing is the plan, discipline, and initiative on the field. The rest will come eagerly."
