A rare event has occurred in English football: Manchester United academy graduate Demetrie Mitchell found his new team through artificial intelligence - the famous ChatGPT.
The 28-year-old Manchester midfielder said in an interview with journalists: "ChatGPT is the best agent because it doesn't require commission. Not only did he find the team, but he also calculated the cost of living in London and the salary required based on the club's level."
As a result, Mitchell signed with League One side Leyton Orient, one of England's lower professional leagues. This club is not unfamiliar to Uzbek fans: last season, in the FA Cup match against "Manchester City," Abdukodir Khusanov played in London, scored a goal against this team, and became the first Uzbek footballer to score a goal in the history of English football.
Due to his Manchester origins, Demetri Mitchell grew up in the United academy, played in several age categories, but did not secure a firm place in the starting lineup. He played twice on loan for Scottish side Heart of Midlothian, then for Hibernian, Blackpool and Exeter in England. He became a free agent after his contract with Exeter expired at the end of last season.
The agreement with the new location discovered through artificial intelligence - "Leyton Orient" - is valid until June 30, 2027. Mitchell already has regular playing experience with the team: he participated in 11 matches in all competitions.
Interestingly, Mitchell, who graduated from United School, was noted as a member of the talented generation from a young age - he also played four times for the England U-20 national team. Nevertheless, the player, who can play in versatile positions, has not shown himself at an absolutely high level and is trying his luck at lower league clubs.
However, this time the main character of the story is artificial intelligence. Mitchell's example shows: in the modern football market, AI tools do not replace agents, but can become a real "manual" in choosing the right direction, assessing the market, and preparing for negotiations.
