UK police have uncovered an international gang that sent nearly 40,000 stolen mobile phones from the country to China. During raids at 28 locations across London and Hertfordshire, 18 suspects were arrested and more than 2,000 phones were recovered.
The investigation began after a victim tracked their stolen iPhone to a warehouse near London. There, police found hundreds more devices, revealing a large-scale smuggling operation.
Among those arrested were two Afghan nationals and one Indian citizen, accused of handling and concealing stolen goods. Later raids led to 15 more arrests, mostly of women.
Police believe the gang may be responsible for up to 40% of all stolen phones in London. Officials say many of the stolen iPhones are sold in China for high prices, making phone theft an increasingly profitable crime.
