Japan was named the most polite nation in an international test

The British company Remitly conducted an international politeness survey with the participation of more than 4,600 participants from 26 countries. Respondents were asked to identify the most polite and well-mannered nations based on their personal experiences and observations.
According to the survey results, Japan took the top spot with 35.15% of the vote. At the same time, Canada and Great Britain also entered the top three. The top ten most polite countries also included China, Germany, the Philippines, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and South Africa.
Interestingly, the opinions of others about politeness and the self-assessment of individuals often differ. For example, the inhabitants of Brazil and Chile consider themselves the most polite, scoring an average of 9.46 points out of 10. At the same time, although Japan achieved the highest score, they themselves rated their politeness relatively low.
The authors of the study noted that in general, people tend to overestimate their own politeness and politeness, despite external perceptions and differences. This shows an interesting difference between cultural and personal perceptions.
