Woman sentenced to prison for throwing formic acid at husband in Germany

In Germany, a woman who attempted to kill her husband with formic acid has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. This was reported by Bild.
It is reported that the verdict was announced by the Braunschweig court. 27-year-old Vivien F. was found guilty of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm.
According to investigation materials, the incident occurred in November 2025. The woman poured high-concentration formic acid over her 32-year-old husband, Frederik F., in the basement of their home.
Law enforcement agencies stated that the motive behind the crime was financial. It is said that the man planned to divorce his wife, and she aimed to obtain 400,000 euros through his life insurance.
During the trial, Vivien F. denied the charges. She claimed that her husband had accidentally knocked over a container of acid in the basement. However, the court deemed this statement implausible.
Although Frederik F. survived the attack, he has been left almost blind. Doctors reported severe damage to his retinas and impaired lung function. The man was kept in an induced coma for several days and underwent 13 surgeries.
According to the court ruling, the defendant was sentenced to 12 years in prison. She was also ordered to pay 250,000 euros in compensation to the victim.
