During the hottest days of summer, people try to quench their thirst with various refreshing drinks. Among them, favorite coffee is always in the spotlight. But how beneficial is drinking coffee in hot weather for the body? On this subject, endocrinologist Darya Khaykina gave a special explanation.
The expert noted that coffee, even when consumed cold in summer, significantly increases the process of sweating in the body. The specialist emphasized that the temperature of the drink does not play a significant role in this process.
The caffeine in coffee activates the nervous system, increases heart rate, and enhances blood flow to the skin’s surface. All these changes lead to an increase in the internal body temperature. The body, in order to protect itself, activates cooling mechanisms, and as a result, sweating becomes even more active.
Caffeine, at the same time, also boosts adrenaline production. This leads to increased breathing rate, elevated blood pressure, and accelerated metabolism. On hot days, such physiological changes put additional strain on the body and may cause fatigue.
Furthermore, coffee stimulates kidney activity, causing fluids to be excreted more quickly. This is also considered a factor that increases sweating in the body. For this reason, doctors recommend consuming coffee mainly at cooler times of day—such as in the evening—and after each cup of coffee, always drinking a glass of water. This is important for preventing dehydration during summer.
In conclusion: while coffee is a refreshing and mood-enhancing drink, it is best to consume it moderately in the summer, to quench chronic thirst with water, and to pay attention to the body's fluid balance. Simple habits that protect your health will help you have a more enjoyable and safe summer.
