On Sunday, July 27, Russia resumed regular passenger flights to North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang. This marks the first direct air connection between the two countries since the mid-1990s.
According to Russia’s Ministry of Transport, the first flight is scheduled to depart from Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow on July 27 at 7:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. Tashkent time). The flight will last eight hours and will be operated with an aircraft accommodating 440 passengers. Ticket prices start at 44,700 rubles (approximately $563), and it was reported that the first flight was quickly sold out.
In June 2025, a 10-day passenger rail service between Moscow and Pyongyang was also reinstated. This indicates a gradual restoration of transportation links between the two countries.
Officials in Moscow and Pyongyang have openly expressed their intention to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Meanwhile, the international community has voiced allegations that North Korea is supplying weapons and artillery to Russia, though both countries have firmly denied these claims.
