A court verdict was read to a preventive inspector in Tashkent who took a bribe from a popcorn seller. The criminal case was considered in the Chilonzor District Court of the Internal Affairs Department.
According to a court document seen by Kun.uz, Abdulaziz Abdullaev, born in 1992, worked as a preventive inspector at the Internal Affairs Department No. 2 of the Chilonzor District Internal Affairs Department.
Taking advantage of his official position, on August 24, 2024, Abdulaziz Abdullaev demanded 100,000 soums from a citizen selling popcorn near the Magic City park in exchange for letting him go without taking him to the Internal Affairs Department. The prevention inspector transferred the requested money to the bank card he had been using.
In addition, Abdulaziz Abdullaev told citizen A.N. that he would “be a tank” for 4 workers who were engaged in selling popcorn in the vicinity of the Magic City park and the “Friendship of Peoples” art palace. That is, he promised not to take action against them, to warn them in advance about raids, and to apply light punishments if they were caught. For this “service”, on September 13, 2024, he received 1.5 million soums as a bribe from citizen A.N.
After that, citizen A.N. contacted the hotline of the Tashkent city department of the Main Department of Personal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs about the situation. On the same day, based on his appeal, personal security officers seized 1.5 million soums from the prevention inspector as material evidence.
Abdulaziz Abdullaev did not plead guilty at the court hearing. He stated that the 1.5 million soums he received were actually the money he had bet on the popcorn sale. He stated that he did not know the young man who transferred 100 thousand soums to his bank card.
Although the prevention inspector did not admit his guilt, his actions were confirmed by witness statements and other evidence.
By court verdict, Abdulaziz Abdullaev was found guilty under Article 210, Part 2, Clause “a” of the Criminal Code (bribery). He was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment with a 2-year disqualification from working in law enforcement agencies. The imposed sentence of imprisonment was considered conditional, and a 3-year probation period was set.
