
A tragedy that saddened English and Portuguese football — Liverpool and national team striker Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Teixeira da Silva died. Due to a traffic accident, Jota's car tire burst, the car veered off the road and caught fire. This tragic event shocked the entire football community.
Today, the football world said goodbye to Diogo and his brother in the city of Gondomar. The funeral ceremony, which lasted about an hour, was attended by Jota's family members, friends, teammates, coaches, and many famous footballers. Among those present were Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Rui Patricio, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, Jose Fonte and others.
Of particular note, the "Penafiel" team arrived in full squad, while Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves, having participated in the Club World Cup, arrived directly from the USA. Among the coaches and officials present were Arne Slot, Fernando Santos, Nuno Espirito Santo, Roberto Martinez and Andre Villas-Boas.
At the memorial ceremony, van Dijk brought a wreath with the number 20 for Jota, and Robertson brought a wreath with the number 30 for Andre Silva. One of the most touching moments was when Diogo Jota’s coffin was carried by his close friend Ruben Neves.
This farewell ceremony was a day of mourning not only for Portugal but also for the entire European football community. Fans, teammates and football figures paid tribute to Jota's memory and the mark he left in his life. This tragedy once again reminded the football world of the values of humanity, friendship, and unity.
